If you are a permanent resident or a Canadian citizen, you may sponsor your family member to join you in Canada.
Partner and dependent children
Canadian citizens and permanent residents may be able to sponsor their spouse, their dependent children and their spouse’s dependent children to obtain permanent residence in Canada. The Canadian immigration authorities recognize unmarried common-law partners, including same-sex partners.
Parents and Grandparents
Citizens and permanent residents may also sponsor their parents and grandparents to allow them to acquire permanent resident status in Canada.
Due to the limited availability of parents and grandparents sponsorship visas, a new “Supervisa” is also available. This 10 year multi-entry visa allows the parents or grandparents of citizens and permanent residents to visit Canada for up to 2 years at a time.
In some cases, you may also be eligible to sponsor other relatives to come join you in Canada.
